Day 5 - Sunday 14 May 2017
Croyde to Braunton (9.5 miles)
A short day today thankfully - particularly as we were back carrying full kit and had 21 miles in our legs from yesterday. Broke with the traditional Full English today as both of us went for Eggs Benedict which was beautifully cooked by Jonathan. Colin dropped us off in Croyde and before setting off we wished him well with the B&B and thanked him for a lovely 2 day stay. Colin & Jonathan have only been open a short time but they clearly knew how to run a B&B. For a nominal fee they provided a couple of lifts to/from Croyde. We really enjoyed our stay with them.
Arriving in Saunton, it was extremely busy with the surfing fraternity who were out in force enjoying this lovely sunny Sunday - we left them to it as we headed out of the town to the Golf Course which provided us with a nice flat amble before walking over Braunton Burrows. The walk through the Burrows was on a long, sterile gravel track which seemed to go on forever and it was good to reach the end and have a bit of lunch. Had to take a well signposted diversion near Broad Sands Car Park which meant we did not travel around the edge of Horsey Island but instead along the access road - we could actually walk above the road on an embankment. Arriving in Braunton we decided to eat supper before walking to our B&B therefore we dined at The Aggi before heading off to The Firs which was a short bimble out of town. B&B was a bit odd and was run by a chap who had an uncanny resemblance to Cliff Richard.

Oh joy of joys - a nice short one today
The very popular Croyde Beach
A bit further round - I bet this is heaving in the height of Summer
Downend
Saunton Sands
A Saunton Sands panorama - the art deco inspired Saunton Sands Hotel is in the foreground
Fair enough mate but learn to spell eh?
Heads down as we pass through Saunton Golf Club - beautiful Golf Course but nobody playing on it
The level path over the Golf Course
The long, long trudge through Braunton Burrows to Broad Sands
The path was closed at Broad Sands and diverted along the bank above the Toll Access road - it rejoined the path further up the Toll Road
Braunton ahead as we proceed along the diverted section of the path
A short day but the North Devon Sleeping Champion was having a post meal nap - he has even laid all his gear out for tomorrow
Overnight Accommodation
Bennings, Braunton - as of April 2018 we think that this B&B has now closed.
