Day 0 - Friday 10 June 2016 - Arrival in Kirkby Stephen
Frank's Bridge, Kirkby Stephen
The walk was nearly over before it had begun!!
Whilst driving up to Kirkby Stephen from Mid Wales we were literally inches from having a road traffic accident when a car appeared over a dip on our side of the road. Thankfully it missed us and the remainder of the journey passed without incident apart from a traffic jam on the M6 and we duly arrived at our B&B, The Jolly Farmers in Kirkby Stephen.
Having been shown to our room to settle in we then returned downstairs where Tea & Scones were made available by Carol the owner. The B&B was clearly busy - most of the other guests were a HF Holiday group who took over the place having just walked over from Shap. Leaving them to their evening meal, we had a quick walk around the town before buying a carpet picnic from the Co-op.
The remainder of the evening was spent sorting out kit for the walk plus our baggage for onward transfer by Packhorse. We had a "do we really need to take this" session before putting the surplus kit in the car which would remain in Packhorse's secure compound. A quick check of the weather forecast did not look that promising but, as ever we remained hopeful they would get it wrong - sometimes they do!! We both slept really well - as did Fudge.
