Day 0 - Tuesday 7 May 2019
Cumbria to Settle
Well the day had finally arrived and after months of planning we were actually off on a route we had wanted to walk for quite a while. In the preceding days we had checked and double checked our arrangements, kit and any other logistical matter that needed scrutiny until we were ready. I drove Angie & Fudge the 2 miles from home to Maryport Station, drove our car back home then walked back to meet them at the Station. Ideally, we could have caught a cab but I fancied the stroll back down the hill to the Station - plus I hate paying for Taxis!!
The 1301 departed promptly and after changing in Carlisle we arrived in the lovely market town of Settle bang on time at 1628. Our B&B was a 5 minute walk from the platform but true to form it was absolutely chucking it down therefore we hung about in the Waiting Room until the downpour eased. After a lovely welcome from our hosts Jackie & Chris we dried off, sorted ourselves out and repaired next door to The Talbot Arms for our evening meal and a very nice well-kept pint of Theakston’s Best.
After topping up supplies at the Settle Co-op we had a quick sort out of kit back at the B&B as we were leaving a bag with our hosts for when we arrived back in 3 weeks. Early night ready for starting our walk tomorrow.

Well here we go - the beginning of another long distance walking adventure
Fudge contemplates the coming 3 weeks - "Have they remembered to pack my food?", he asks himself
Arriving at Settle Station - it was just about to chuck it down. I wasn't looking forward to humping that bag to the B&B either!
Settle Station on the Carlisle to Settle line - all the individual stations on the line are beautifully looked after
As usual, Fudge readied his kit ready for the start of the walk tomorrow
A nice easy lead in to the walk - the Theakstons in The Talbot Arms was very good
Never been in but love the name
