Walk Description
This is a superb linear walk we have done on many occasions. Long and varied, it encompasses climbs, flat field paths plus city walking. We normally catch the train to the market town of Church Stretton, walk to Shrewsbury then catch the train home from there. If you are taking the car then there is plenty of parking in Church Stretton - likewise there is also the option to reverse the route.
From the station the route heads over the A49, up Cwms Lane then on to Caer Caradoc's summit & ancient hill fort via Three Fingers Rock. There are wide ranging views available from here notably back over to The Long Mynd, to the next summit of The Lawley and (on a good day) over to The Wrekin. From Caer Caradoc's summit the route drops down to Comley and then climbs steeply to The Lawley and its weather vaned summit.
Leaving The Lawley the route descends gradually to Lawley and then passes along quiet lanes and field paths through the villages of Longnor, Dorrington, Stapleton and Chatford before reaching Lyth Hill Country Park where there is a slight pull up to the level path on the summit ridge. There is an option here to avoid the long walk into Shrewsbury by catching the bus although the walk to the town centre via fields, urban areas and the outskirts of Shrewsbury is pleasant enough.
This is a walk to take your time over and enjoy.
