Us
We are the Masarnen Ramblers aka Dave & Angie Walsh and our dog Fudge. Having both left behind busy careers in the Royal Navy, we now have a gentler pace of life than that endured before. We are both very keen mountain walkers, canoeists and enjoy keeping fit. We love nothing more than getting out and about in the mountains and fells near our home in Cumbria. We also like to travel the length & breadth of the UK to seek out other lovely walks - after all it is a great excuse to drink real ale and eat lots of cake!
The name of our website originated from when we lived in Mid Wales. Our house was called Masarnen which is Welsh for Maple.
In addition to our day to day walking and that of Long Distance Routes, Dave guides for a company called North West Walks. The company arrange self guided walks on all kinds of Long Distance Paths and offer itineraries on both the Coast to Coast & West Highland Way. A link to their website is here:

Allen Crags, Lake District - August 2021
Fudge - 10 August 2012 to 28 July 2024
Fudge sadly passed away suddenly in July 2024 following a short illness. He was an absolutely huge part of our lives and we miss him so much. He had a huge effect on the various people who he either met in person or who followed him on Social Media - quite simply, he melted people's hearts. He just loved being out on the fells, long distance walking, swimming and generally arsing about. He was quite simply a one off who loved his Mum and Dad who in turn loved him. During his short life he managed to raise well over £30,000 for various charities but mainly Spaniel Aid. Sleep tight little chap.
A little bit about him plus his walking bio is below.

When my Mum & Dad retired they had always intended to bring a dog into their lives. Therefore, in October 2012 they travelled down to Okehampton in Devon to collect me - an 8 week old bundle of mischief, a Chocolate Working Cocker Spaniel called Blatchford Little Fudge – or Fudge as I am more commonly known. I love being out in the hills and I have already climbed all 214 Wainwrights almost 3 times. Apparently I am a little chocolate monster although I do not know what that means and my hobbies are walking in the fells & mountains, swimming in any coloured water, eating the landscape, cuddling my Mum & Dad and last but not least raising lots of money for my less fortunate doggy pals at Spaniel Aid. I absolutely love my walkies and completed my first Long Distance Path, The Dales Way in May 2014 and since then I have walked the following lengthy walks:
2015 - The Pennine Way
2016 - Wainwright's Coast to Coast
2017 - South West Coast Path
2018 - The Cleveland Way & Tabular Hills
2019 - Wainwright's Pennine Journey
2020 - St Cuthbert's Way
2021 - The Cumbria Way
2022 - The Cotswold Way
2023 - The Herriot Way
2024 - The Two Moors Way
Phew, I am a busy pooch.
Luv from Fudge
