Day 36 - Wednesday 14 June 2017
Noss Mayo to Bantham (14.6 miles)
We breakfasted early as we had to catch the bus to Noss Mayo at Whip Crack Sparrow Fart (0840). The bus journey was a nightmare - quiet country lanes and the poor old bus got stuck a couple of times but we made it eventually, albeit 15 mins late. We had walked this section a couple of times before - lovely flat and lush green paths along The Warren & Revelstoke Drive. The weather today was glorious - sunny with light breezes, just perfect. Tough knee jarring descent of Beacon Hill and at Carswell Cove we had to wait about 20 minutes whilst the farmer moved his cattle - we just sat and waited for him to do his job.
Met our friends Lee & Karen at Mothecombe - they had kindly agreed to come and see us with a view to taking us around the Erme and also across from Bigbury to Bantham - tide times just did not fit unfortunately. Lee walked with us to Bigbury which was a lovely walk, some really testing ups & downs which were quite brutal in parts. Had a lovely pint in Challaborough in The Waterfront and then carried on to Bigbury to meet Karen who drove us all around to Bantham. In the late afternoon sun we sat outside our B&B, The Sloop before the four of us checked in and met later for a great meal.

At the bus stop in Noss Mayo - tough night was it?
Boating action on the Yealm looking over to Newton Ferrers
We have walked The Warren a few times - it is a lovely stretch of the Devon Coast
Another lovely Yealm panoramic
Wembury & Season Point
Looking back to the Great Mew Stone from Revelstoke Drive
The lovely Warren Cottage on Revelstoke Drive.
The wide track of Revelstoke is a nine mile circular, part of which goes from Noss Mayo to Stoke Point on the South West Coast Path

Fudge waiting patiently for his Dad to catch up on Revelstoke Drive.........
........ what a lovely welcome
This lot were spread all over the path having a bit of a chinwag - we went up to the left of them to pass
Looking to Cunnimall
5 miles in already - when we were calculating the tides for today we knew it would be touch and go whether we reached both the Erme & Avon rivers within the tide times. Luckily we had the help of friends to take us around both as the tides simply did not fit our schedule.
Once we were past Cunnimall the ups & downs started in earnest - whilst it didn't look like it from here, we knew the coastline ahead hid a few.
Descending from Beacon Hill
We had to hang about here below St Anchorite's Rock whilst the Farmer moved his Cattle. We could easily have walked up past them but were in no rush and didn't want to get in his way.
The Dolerite of St Anchorite's Rock.
The rock demonstrates a basic igneous intrusion into Meadfoot Beds with erosion during the Pleistocene etching out the harder dolerite from the less resistant slate to form a tor feature - anyway, moving on......

Butcher's Cove
The beautiful rock formations around Butcher's Cove
Ooh err Missus
The eastern side of the River Erme - the tide was not quite out therefore our plan to get a lift around the estuary worked.
A River Erme panoramic
Fernycombe Point
Looking back to the path between Fernycombe and Beacon Points
Westcombe
Looking back to the steep descent down to Westcombe
Lee striding out down to Ayrmer Cove - Burgh Island comes into view. Lo and behold there is another steep one in the offing - up to Toby's Point.
Time for a breather to look back at Ayrmer Cove
We had it on good authority that there was ice cold Cider in Challaborough - soon find out. For those spelling Nazi's amongst you - yes the signwriter has spelt Challaborough wrong.
Challaborough - the building with the dark roof sold the Cider
Burgh Island
Get in!! Cheers Lee.
