Walk Description
We were staying locally in Barber Booth therefore decided to walk to Hope via part of the delightful Great Ridge and then on to Win Hill. This would be a linear walk as we would catch the train back to Edale from Hope Station. There is parking available in Barber Booth although this walk could easily be started from Edale and from there intersect with the path to Hollins Cross. We have walked in this area on many occasions and rejoiced in how quiet it is - apart from the easily accessible Mam Tor which we avoided today.
Reaching Hollins Cross there now begins a superb walk over the ridge to Back Tor and on to Lose Hill with glorious views to the Hope Valley and over to Edale & Kinder Scout. On a clear day like we had today, we took our time and really enjoyed the varied walking, particularly the steep climb up to Back Tor and the pleasant wide path to Lose Hill.
From Lose Hill we dropped down into the Hope Valley, north of the village and crossed over the railway to Fullwood Stile Farm where a good rising path leads to a junction at Wooler Knoll - from here the path switches back and makes its way over good ground to reach the steep rise up to the summit of Win Hill. All along the approach to Win Hill are superb views down to Ladybower Reservoir and back along the Great Ridge to Mam Tor, Back Tor and Lose Hill.
From the summit of Win Hill the route descends swiftly to Hope. On reaching the village there is about half a mile of road walking along the A6187 to Hope Station.
We both really enjoyed this walk - superb scenery, quiet and with visits to 4 glorious summits in a beautiful part of the Peak District.
