Day 0 - Tuesday 5 June 2018
Cumbria to Boltby (High Paradise Farm)
Getting to the start
As with any long distance walk we have always had to have a think about the logistical aspects of how we get to the start and in turn how to get home once the walk has been completed. Ideally we would have liked to have started the walk from and finished at Helmsley - the recognised start point of The Cleveland Way and also the finish point of The Tabular Hills. However, this was proving difficult for two reasons - firstly we had difficulty finding any dog friendly accommodation in Helmsley and also we could not find a place we could safely leave our car.
With that in mind I contacted an ex military friend of ours, Tony who just as it happened ran a small holding with his partner Judith bang on The Cleveland Way near Boltby. He had always known that at some stage we were going to walk this route and had offered to accommodate us on what would have been the end of Day One. Having agreed a revised plan with Tony, we would now start and finish at Boltby - this would mean going slightly out of sync but would enable us to leave our car at Tony's farm at High Paradise. After an uneventful journey over from Cumbria we arrived in Boltby mid afternoon and after a lovely evening meal enjoyed a very pleasant stroll out to Sneck Yate, covering what would be the final mile or so of the walk in just over 2 weeks time.
Therefore suitably refreshed and after a final check of the kit we turned in - the planning had been meticulously completed and we were ready to embark on what hopefully would be a trouble free walk in this beautiful part of England. Read on to find out how we got on...............
