Walk Description
Following some pretty heavy rainfall in the preceding days, we had superb weather today. The sun was out and the visibility was fantastic. We were out and about pretty early in order to make the most of the light and conditions and we could have stayed out a lot longer but for the threat of darkness. The walk starts in Glenridding where there is plenty of parking - we were staying in a cottage in the village therefore we could walk from the door today.
There is a bit of road walking to get to the path that leaves the main road just past Stybarrow Crag and once you are on this delightful stretch the walk really starts. We made our way along Seldom Seen and through the Glencoyne Valley before striking up the hillside to reach the Summit of Sheffield Pike. This is a lovely spot and affords you great views down Ullswater. Moving on, we then made our way down to the col at Nick Head and along the Sticks Pass until turning left up the gentle slope to the Summit of Raise. The views gives a grand panorama over the Helvellyn Range and The Dodds and we were so lucky to have the visibility in order to enjoy them.
We were tempted to make the short trip over to White Side but instead kept with our original plan of heading back down to the Sticks Pass junction and carrying on over to Watson's Dodd. Again the views were striking and we could look down to Thirlmere below us. From Watson's Dodd we returned the same way and walked up the gentle slope to Stybarrow Dodd. From here the long path to the next summit of Hart Side could clearly be seen and this is a lovely walk on a good path. With Hart Side bagged we headed back to Glenridding via White Stones and Nick Head before the long transit back to Seldom Seen and the road.
This was another cracking walk - even better with the conditions and visibility we had today.
