Walk Description
Nice panorama from the B&B at Mortimer's Cross
The old signpost in Aymestry - we were heading for The Mill
One of the many Mortimer Trail wooden benches on the route
Lyepole Bridge
The steep ascent up to the edge of Shobdon Hill Wood.....
....and looking back down
Entering Shobdon Wood to start the ascent of Shobdon Hill
Looking back down to the beginning of the ascent of Shobdon Hill
Fudge guessed correctly - we were heading to the left
Almost at the top of Shobdon Hill
A Shobdon Hill panoramic
The summit of Shobdon Hill - Fudge is clearly upset there is no Cairn to scramble & sniff over
A Trig Point lies to the west of the summit
Zooming in on The Whimble over at New Radnor
7 miles in with 11 to go
The path descends steeply through woodland to reach Byton
We had clearly interrupted a late lunch in Byton
Handrailing Brandhill Wood on our way to Wapley Hill
Wapley Hill
Any excuse for a breather eh Fudge?
Come on boy - we have to crack on.
Fudge is sitting on a wood carving given by friends of Miles Baddeley who was known as the "Birdman of Wapley"
Fudge is sitting on a wood carving given by friends of Miles Baddeley who was known as the "Birdman of Wapley"
From the Hill Fort on Wapley Hill the path makes a very pleasant descent through the forest to Stansbatch
It was difficult to fathom out whether this was to warn us of Alsatians or Teutonic Herdsmen running amok
St Peter's Church in Titley
Fudge cannot take the pace as we storm out of Titley
Last bits - come on, suck it in - not long now
Just when we thought we were on the home straight the Trail threw this at us - a fallen tree across the path resting on an electric fence. We had no option but to remove rucksacks and limbo under the fence to the right and limbo back on to the path. Thankfully no shocks!
Heading across the flank of Rushock Hill with Kington in sight below
Pen y Fan & Corn Du come into view as we near the finish.....
..... as do Hay Bluff, Twmpa & Rhos Dirion
Cracked it - arriving in Kington
The Market House & Clock Tower in Kington
