Walk Description
We were again blessed with a superb day and made the most of it. Long drive over to the other side of Mungrisdale on the road to Caldbeck but it was worth it. There is a car parking area on the right hand side of the road just by the ford near to Calebreck Farm. From here we took the path to High Pike but left this to take the Red Gate track to walk up Drygill Head and on to the Cumbria Way to visit Great Lingy Hill and Hare Stones.
With good visibility, todays route was in full view for most of the walk and the summit of High Pike was clearly visible from Hare Stones. Once up on top of High Pike we were able to take in the fantastic view over towards the Northern Fells and to Carrock Fell, our next summit. There is a good ridge path over to Carrock Fell via Miton Hill and Round Knott and the views from the summit were again far ranging, such was our good visibility.
The descent from Carrock Fell back to the start is via an intermittent path but is not overly difficult to negotiate. Another good day out on the fells and it is easy to see why it has been said that "The Caldbeck Fells are worth all England else!"
