The Southern Car Park on Cinderdale Common.
As is usual, Fudge has the look of somebody who is very impatient and just wants to get going so he can arse about in Cinderdale Beck.

The start of the path to Lad Hows from Cinderdale with Whiteless Pike to the rear
Sun is up as we look over Crummock Water with Mellbreak almost covered in its bright yellow coat
Looking over Crummock Water to Mellbreak. At this point we knew we were in for a cracking day.
Rannerdale Knotts with the High Stile Ridge to the rear
Whiteless Pike still in shade as we ascend to Lad Hows
Grasmoor and our route of ascent
Looking back down the Lad Hows ascent and what a view
One more main rise and we would be almost on the summit of Grasmoor. Whilst the ascent looks pretty brutal when viewed from Lad Hows it is fairly gradual - just give yourself little goals and you are soon on the top and after all on a day like today why rush??
Fudge near the summit of Grasmoor - resplendent in red today
Our lad certainly loves being up on the fells - may he have many more days up on them
Looking across to Grasmoor's eastern ridge with Crag Hill distant
The final approach to Grasmoor's summit with our return route over Whiteless Pike to the rear
"Is it over there then?"
Fudge contemplates our next move on the summit plateau of Grasmoor

Skiddaw and Blencathra from Grasmoor's summit
The summit of Grasmoor and what a view
Into the sun from the summit of Grasmoor with the Scafells in the far left distance
Looking to the western cairn on the summit of Grasmoor.
Mellbreak is to the near left with Hen Comb to the rear. Centre left is Gavel Fell then to the right are Blake Fell, Carling Knott & Burnbank Fell

From the summit shelter it is worth making the short transit over to the western cairn on Grasmoor
The western cairn on Grasmoor and what a view
Layers & layers of fells
Leaving Grasmoor it was now time to head over the eastern ridge in the direction of Crag Hill
It is a delightful amble over Grasmoor's huge summit plateau - especially on a day like today
Another superb view on Grasmoor, this time from near the eastern cairn
The eastern cairn on Grasmoor looking to Crag Hill
Looking back to Grasmoor and our route of descent
Crag Hill, Sail & Addacomb Hole from the summit of Wandope
The summit of Wandope
Ard Crags & Knott Rigg in the foreground from Wandope
Mellbreak from Thirdgill Head Man
Grasmoor from the summit of Thirdgill Head Man
From Thirdgill Head Man the route heads over Whiteless Edge to Saddle Gate then up onto Whiteless Pike - this is a lovely part of the walk.

Continuing along Whiteless Edge to Saddle Gate
Looking back to Grasmoor, Thirdgill Head Man & Wandope from Whiteless Edge
Our outward route of ascent up the Lad Hows ridge to Grasmoor

Now for the descent back to Cinderdale - the terrain is stony at first then lower down becomes a grassy path
Rannerdale Knotts from midway down the descent - our route back to Cinderdale would be via a path directly below this fell
Looking back to Whiteless Pike
Another view of Rannerdale Knotts from the descent of Whiteless Pike.
We were tempted to have a wander along the ridge and climb the fell but thought we had done enough for today

The path below Low Bank on Rannerdale Knotts.
This is a popular route through the valley and makes for a grand circular walk from Buttermere or the far end of Rannerdale Knotts. Either climb Rannerdale Knotts first and return along this path or vice versa - both routes are delightful.

Looks like somebody has had a super but tiring day out
