The Cotswold Way - 14 to 23 June 2022
Introduction
At 102 miles The Cotswold Way was originally designed as a long distance footpath by The Ramblers in 1970 and was developed as a National Trail in 1998. However it was not until May 2007 that the trail was formally launched and more or less sticks to the original route that was first proposed. Almost all of the route runs through the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The walk can be started from or finish at the charming market town of Chipping Campden or the beautiful city of Bath. The route primarily sticks to the Cotswold Edge escarpment of the Cotswold Hills and drops in and out of the picturesque and scenic villages of this beautiful area.
Whilst the walk is not overly difficult or navigationally challenging, it still provides the long distance walker with a route full of interest and beauty. It takes in a landscape steeped in history from Neolithic Longbarrows and Iron Age Hillforts to Roman remains and elegant stately homes.
Read on to see how we got on in both the planning stages and the walk itself.
