Route Map
Lovely view out of the back door of the holiday cottage
The delightful and very quiet village of Lastingham
Didn't go in to the pub in Lastingham as it was a bit too early but it looked ok
St Mary's Church Lastingham
Leaving the village the route heads on to open moorland at the Lastingham Millennium Stone
Whilst there was snow on the ground the walking conditions were pretty good - no ice here thankfully
Looking over to Hartoft End. The two flags fluttering away belong to The Blacksmiths Arms - sadly as of December 2018 the pub is closed
Near Hartoft Bridge we came upon a shooting party who asked jokingly if they could borrow Fudge in order to sniff out any Game
The plaque marking the fact that a glass furnace was once sited here on the Spaunton Estate.......
... and here is why.
Approaching Hollins Farm - the route turns sharply back on itself here
Heading for Redman Plain
He was in his element today - just loves messing about in snow
The good track to Ana Cross
Ana Cross
Ana Cross
The cross is a "Waymarker Cross" from the early 19th Century made from diagonally-tooled Gritstone. The base is of 2 massive stones, clamped together. The cross is approximately 3 metres high, the head cut from a single separate block.

Looking back to Ana Cross
The path from Ana Cross leads to the main road to Rosedale coming up from Hutton-le- Hole
In conditions like this the road is normally closed due to the dangerously steep descent down Chimney Bank
Looking over to Ana Cross
Heading down the Hutton Ridge to Hutton-le-Hole
The route rejoins the main Hutton-le-Hole to Rosedale road.
Despite the sign here, we saw several cars totally ignore it only to see them coming back a few minutes later.

Now to seek out somewhere to drink something cold in a warm place
Here we are - The Crown in Hutton-le-Hole which is a very good pub
Any excuse for an arse about eh Fudge
The War Memorial in Hutton-le-Hole
