Day 42 - Tuesday 20 June 2017
Torquay to Brixham (10 miles)
Decided to break with tradition today - instead of the planned route from Brixham to Torquay we thought we would mix it up and do the route the other way around. Makes no difference - same route but we thought we would save the ferry journey until the end of the day. It was already extremely warm as we left the B&B and it was certainly going to be a hot one today - luckily it was 10 miles of fairly flat terrain along various promenades all the way to Brixham.
It was about a mile down to the promenade at Torquay and it was a simple case of wandering along the pavement to the outskirts of Paignton with a brief respite from the tarmac as we transitted through Hollincombe Park. One plus point as we hit Paignton Prom was the abundance of showers - obviously for bathers to use but we nevertheless gave them a go, including Fudge. Paignton Pier was not too busy therefore we replenished fluids for a while and just sat in the shade watching the world go by.
Further along the prom we bumped into David Hatto who we met in Kingswear yesterday - he was killing time waiting for his rucksack to be repaired. Arrived at another pub, The Inn on the Quay and could not resist stopping for drinks - we sat in the shade of the foyer to cool off before venturing out into the blazing sun again. After a lunch & Ice Cream stop at Broad Sands we enjoyed a delightful wander through Churston Woods to reach the outskirts of Brixham. We were a bit early for the ferry however there were hordes of people queuing up therefore we joined the back of it - just about got on the ferry although to us it seemed extremely overloaded.
Thankfully we arrived in Torquay after a lovely flat crossing and enjoyed our second evening meal at The Offshore. Walked back to King's Lodge, showered and sat outside in the cool evening air in company with the 3 ladies from Essex again.

A break from the pavement as we hit the grass behind the beach huts at Preston Sands
Roll up, roll up it's Paignton Pier
It was tempting to put a few bob in and end up like Tom Hanks in "Big"
The slipway at Paignton Harbour
Goodrington Sands
The path passes below the Dartmouth Steam Railway Line
Looking back to Goodrington Sands from near Saltern Cove
A nice lunch stop at Broad Sands followed by ice cream for us all - including Fudge.........

Another chance for Fudge to cool off in the sea at Elberry Cove
Churston Cove
A Brixham Harbour panoramic
The slipway at Brixham Harbour - it took us ages to get cheeky boy out of the water
Apparently this is the work of Banksy - a well known Graffiti Artist. It is however a stencil which has been applied to the outside wall of Brixham Fish Market and according to experts (?) is unlikely to be the work of the great (?) man himself.
