Day 7 - Tuesday 16 May 2017
Northam to Clovelly (17.2 miles)
A really lovely stay in Northam - Harry the owner really looked after us. Wandered into Westward Ho! - we were not that impressed with it to be honest, probably something to do with the fact that we were seeing it on another dank, drizzly & overcast day. After a bit of shopping we were heading back to the path when were greeted by a local who asked us if we were looking for the Coast Path. We were actually right next to it when he then pointed us in completely in the wrong direction - was a bit odd that.
The first few miles today were over cliffs then the remainder was through woodland - no views to speak of. The paths on this particular section were wet and treacherous therefore we took our time. We were extremely glad to finally reach Hobby Drive as we were now on a seemingly never ending and winding forest track which took us all the way in to Clovelly. Suitably wet yet glad to be here as we were staying 4 nights, we were collected by our host Anna and taken to our digs a few miles away in Stoke. Oh the joys of a rest day and a few days of light rucksacks. That night Anna cooked us a superb evening meal and sleep came very easy!

Entering Westward Ho! - we were not that impressed with it to be honest
It was about here that we were asked if we were looking for the Coast Path
Amusing signs in Westward Ho!
Heading out of Westward Ho! - the weather was a tad ropey.
This would ordinarily have been a nice stretch over Green Cliff but today it was hard work
This sign lied - it was well longer than that
The path drops down to the beach briefly below Westacott Cliff
After some treacherous woodland walking were glad for the safe terrain of the Hobby Drive. A pleasant enough amble but it just seemed to go on forever as it twisted and turned this way & that all the way to Clovelly.
The memorial bench on Hobby Drive that commemorates an extension of 833 yards to the Drive by Frederick and Christine Hamlyn in 1901.
The end of a long and wet day - the lane down into the village of Clovelly
Overnight Accommodation
Coastguard Cottage, Stoke - sadly Coastguard Cottage is no longer available as a B&B.
