Pennine Way Day 0 - Monday 8 June 2015
From Mid Wales over to Torside
Hello peeps - well I've had me fur cut, packed me bag and I am ready for the off!
Well the day had finally come - we were off on a journey that had been long in the planning. The previous few weeks had been utilised to check accommodation, ensure our kit was ok and that we were fit enough to do this. For the latter we had spent a fair amount of time in the hills around our Mid Wales home plus trips up to the Lake and Peak Districts. All in all we thought we were good to go and so it proved.
Our only worry was whether our pooch Fudge was up to it - not his fitness but whether or not his paws would hold out. Because of the amount of time he spends in the hills we keep his paws in good nick anyway with regular waxing and conditioner - this avoids the inevitable cracking and splitting. We simply increased the regularity of this as we neared the start date. At the beginning of each day we intended to wax his paws and then condition them at night. This proved to work as he did not have any cracking or splitting on any paw which was a great weight off our minds each day.
Therefore we were as prepared as we could be and made the journey up to Torside to settle in to our B&B and get our packs ready for the first day. After a nice meal in the Peels Arms in Padfield we settled in ready for tomorrow.
