The Forestry England Car Park at Bowness Knott. At weekends this area fills up pretty quickly therefore you are advised to get here early - during the week it is normally quite easy to obtain a space.

The route crosses Woundell Beck via a footbridge known locally as Galloway Bridge or Moo Moo Bridge
Picture
At Grid Reference NY 13398 13801 a waymark points the way south into Ling Mell Plantation. In days gone by this path was easily missed however the brand spanking new sign should make sure this does not happen - providing you are looking up that is!

Eventually the route leaves the steep climb out of Ling Mell Plantation to emerge on to level going and open fell side. In the distance are White Pike on Pillar & Wind Gap with Steeple just poking out centre right.

From Steeple we would now be heading over to Scoat Fell, the summit of which is over to the left and reached via a narrow path
Picture
Much is made of the access to & from Steeple - it is a perfectly safe transit provided you simply take your time

Picture
From Scoat Fell we headed into a col to then begin the short, steep climb to Haycock
Picture
A cairn in the col marks a junction of paths - left will take you to Wasdale Head via Netherbeck, whilst heading to the right leads to Ennerdale via Tewit How

Picture
From Haycock we headed over to Caw Fell via Little Gowder Crag. The path keeps to the left of Little Gowder however a simple, short detour over rocks enables the summit to be reached.
Picture
Aye aye, what's all this then?? We had a chat with a bloke who was working here and he informed us this was a temporary structure being used to support the building of a new fence.
