Day 22 - Wednesday 29 May 2019
Clapham to Settle (8.1 miles)
Well here we were on our last day, the culmination of a quite fantastic route & walk which surpassed expectations. The final day of a long distance walk is both tinged with sadness and a bit of an anti-climax if I am honest. Knowing that tomorrow you are not setting off on another days walking is sad and also when you get to the end it always seems weird that it is ending for some unexplainable reason.
Bridge Cottage was a lovely B&B and Isobel is a genuinely warm lady who is definitely in the right career. As we were leaving we had a quick chat with Ian from Trail Magic who was picking up our bag for the final time. We would definitely use them again as they provided a seamless and prompt service with our baggage. The distance today was only 8 miles therefore we could really take our time and enjoy it and we headed out of the village the same way we had entered yesterday - up via the Clapham Tunnels and on to Thwaite Lane.
The terrain to Feizor via the outskirts of Austwick was all track and we were pleased to see Elaine's Tea Room open for business therefore we fuelled up on Cheese Scones & Chocolate Cake. Had a bit of a chat with Clitheroe Cycling Club who were also in attendance and Angie took a group photograph for them before they cycled off into the distance.
Leaving Feizor the route headed over undulating farmland to reach Settle and journey's end at the Station. We asked one of the Station employees to take our finishing photo and she duly obliged. Therefore that was it - all over and we headed back into Settle to find a hostelry for a drink to celebrate. The Golden Lion facilitated this very well and after a swift half we checked into our B&B King William IV. After a spruce up & sort out we wandered back into Settle and bought a bottle of Fizz and some Dinner from the Co-op before having a relaxing evening in getting our bags ready for our return journey home tomorrow.

Isn't it refreshing to see people taking a pride in the appearance of their business?
The drinking fountain in Clapham which commemorates the 60 year reigns of both Queen Victoria & Queen Elizabeth II
Entering the Clapham Tunnels
The Clapham tunnels were constructed by the Farrar family to provide a route underneath the Ingleborough Hall Estate connecting the village with Fell Lane, which leads along Clapdale.

The route to Austwick is on a good track called Thwaite Lane
