Introduction
Known as the Devon Coast to Coast, The Two Moors Way is a walk that was opened officially in May 1976. It was inspired by Joe Turner who was the original chairman of The Two Moors Way Association and is a combination of the original Two Moors Way and the more recently established Erme-Plym trail in South Devon.
Starting near Plymouth, the route follows the Erme-Plym trail from Wembury to Ivybridge then crosses Dartmoor to finish in Lynmouth by passing through the western third of Exmoor. At roughly 117 miles depending on choice of route, it is a fascinating low level (for the most part) journey that is full of history & interest. The walk can be split up into manageable days and can be made as hard or as easy as you like, the only issue being accommodation options along the way.
The walk is typically done over 8 days and can be started at either end although most people choose to go from south to north. The three sections are quite different in character but combine to make a fantastic walk in the somewhat quieter parts of Devon & Somerset. The route passes through picturesque villages, rolling countryside and beautiful woodland to provide a fabulous experience for the walker with the opportunity to experience what this area has to offer.
For anybody wishing to experience a multi day walk over not too taxing terrain then The Two Moors Way is an ideal starting point. It is not overly difficult either navigationally or physically, however it still provides the walker with a fantastic walking journey through a beautiful landscape.
Read on to see how we got on in both the planning stages and the walk itself.
