Day 12 - Sunday 17 June 2018
Scarborough to Filey (11.6 miles)
Ordinarily today would have been completion day for the Cleveland Way therefore we wondered how it would feel to actually arrive at the walk finish point knowing that you hadn't finished it yet? No matter - we knew at the start that logistically we were going to have this problem therefore we didn't think at any time that this would take the shine off the journey. Therefore it was with a spring in our step that we ambled through the North Bay area of Scarborough to arrive at the South Bay's promenade. The frontage was immediately an assault on the senses - an array of amusement arcades and the rest of the paraphernalia you find in popular seaside towns. Once we were free of this quarter of a mile the walk opens out a bit and the promenade delivers some more interesting sights along the way such as the Grand Hotel, Cliff Lift & Spa Building.
The transit to Cayton Bay contained a fair bit of up and down and on arrival we made the short diversion down to the beach to enjoy a cool drink & a lovely piece of Lemon Drizzle Cake at Lucy's Beach Shack - an added bonus as we were totally unaware it was there. Regaining our route the path continued its undulations above the rocky coastline before flattening out for the last 2 miles into Filey. Once we had taken the obligatory photographs at the Cleveland Way sign we headed into the town - it was busy therefore we didn't hang about and caught the 1530 bus back to Scarborough.
Supper consisted of a Fish & Chip Supper from the excellent North Bay Fisheries which we ate alfresco in the oriental themed surroundings of Peasholm Park. The remainder of the evening was spent sorting out our kit and admin - tomorrow would see us on a 15 mile schlep to the Dalby Forest with a full rucksack each.

Strictly speaking we had not completed the Cleveland Way yet as we still had to walk the leg from Helmsley to Boltby which would be done at the end of The Tabular Hills.
